Recharge your creativity
One of the main reasons people don’t write the things they want to write is time. Another big reason is fear. We all want to write something amazing, first time, none of that cringe we get when what we see on paper isn’t what we imagined — and so writing can become painful.
Well, creativity can be kind of hellish, at its worst… but at its best, it can be absolutely joyous, if we just remember how to take ourselves a little less seriously.
And to do that, one of the most valuable things we can do is let go of everything else around us for a few days and just play.
Which is what we’ll be doing on the Buried Treasure Writing Retreat.
Over two days, we’ll unearth the buried treasure in your brain, rediscover your endless capacity to play, and make huge leaps on the writing project you’ve got on your mind.
This retreat will give you:
- New writing skills and techniques (honing your idea, hooks, humour, personality, finishing strong) you can put to use there and then in your project — and take away with you to use every time you write something new.
- Honest and detailed feedback on everything you write during the workshop, plus suggestions for how to move your project forward and make sure it’s doing what you want it to do.
- A detailed treasure map for your ongoing work after the retreat, so you feel confident about continuing in the real world.
- New ways of looking at your writing and creativity thanks to some fun, on occasion bordering on ridiculous, activities that are only tangentially related to writing…
- New connections with some incredible people who can support you and cheer you on as you write — during the retreat and, hopefully, afterwards too.
- A new-found confidence in your ideas, your voice, and your writing ability — you’ll be amazed at what you produce while you’re here.
Who is it for?
The writing retreat is for you if you have a writing project you want to start, or a project that’s stalled. Here are a few examples of what people might be working on:
- A book or a MicroBook.
- An email sequence.
- A series of articles or one big article.
- A podcast episode.
- A video series.
- A new product or launch.
- An essay or essay series.
- A website or webpage.
- Blogs
The schedule:
A few weeks before the retreat, I’ll send you a questionnaire so I can get to know more about you, your writing goals, and your requirements and needs for the retreat.
We’ll have a pre-retreat group call on Thursday August 15 at 2pm BST and a post-retreat group call on Tuesday September 10 at 3pm BST.
You’ll arrive from 6pm on Friday August 30 and leave by 10am on Monday September 2, 2024.
- Friday August 30: After settling in, we’ll get together for a delicious meal and chat about our work, our goals, and what’s coming up over the next two days. There will also be a game to get your creative juices flowing, but don’t worry — it won’t be one of those painful “teambuilding” activities…
- Saturday August 31: After breakfast, we’ll meet for our Buried Treasure Map, our first skillshop session — followed by writing time. Lunch is at 12.30, then a free hour to explore/nap/sauna. At 2pm, we’ll have another skillshop followed by writing time and a secret creative adventure… We’ll meet for dinner in the evening, and share some work (if we’re up for that) around the campfire (this is guided).
- Sunday September 1: Breakfast, then a skillshop session and writing time. Another top secret creative adventure, then lunch and a free hour to chill/read/play games. At 2pm we’re back for a little more learning and writing. Dinner in the evening and another share session around the campfire (or woodburning stove if it rains).
- Monday September 2: Breakfast and packing, then a final wrap-up gathering, before I wave you on your way.
Accommodation:
This is glamping, so if the great outdoors isn’t your thing, this probably isn’t for you. (But keep your eyes peeled because I’m planning a luxe retreat in Tuscany for 2025!)
The accommodation is four beautiful, luxurious, cosy bell tents, each sleeping four people.
Single tents are available for an extra fee.
All meals and non-alcoholic drinks included. All bed linen and one towel per guest provided. I will send a more detailed packing list and schedule nearer the time!
