“You just open up your legs and stuff it in,” I explained.
Then stared, baffled, as everyone at the table collapsed in gales of laughter.
“What? WHAT?”
Let me provide some context. We were on a rock climbing holiday in Kalymnos with a group of friends, having a delicious meal at the end of a day’s adventuring.
The conversation was all about how much we could all eat on these holidays, and where did it go.
My theory? Hollow legs. All the food went straight into hollow legs. Hence my suggestion when Ruth declared that she was full.
As soon as I realised what I’d said, I obviously wanted to die. Within 15 seconds, I was drenched with sweat and my face closely resembled a tomato. I still wake up in the night occasionally and spend a few moments hating myself for that.
Honestly, the things my brain can dredge up and beat me up about, even years later, are staggering. Those memory superheroes have nothing on my social anxiety.
So, yeah, I’ve shared (one of) mine: now it’s your turn.
Your prompt today is—write about an awkward moment. Maybe it’s one of yours; maybe you witnessed it and experienced vicarious embarrassment.
Set a timer for 5 minutes, and have at it.
Enjoy!
TTFN,
Vicky
