Day 8: International Women’s Day

Day 8: International Women’s Day

Shout out the incredible women who lift you up and fill your soul!

Write about the women in your life who are magnificent, and why they deserve to be lauded as QUEENS.

There are so many amazing women in my life I’m not even gonna attempt to roll-call them all now; instead, I want to say this.

When I was younger, I didn’t have many friends. I was—and am—pretty socially awkward and have awful social anxiety (I need a shower even after a quick conversation with a new person).

I struggled to make and keep friends in general, and I was wary of girls and women.

I’d bought into the lie that we’re all in competition with each other, and that women were “bitchy” and “backstabby”. I was proud of my friendships with men and boys; partly because I wasn’t a girly girl.

I didn’t know how to be friends with women. I’d had a couple of best friends as a teenager, one of whom I am still in touch with and who is incredible…

But as an adult? No ride-or-die friend for fun nights out or cosy nights in. I had no idea how that worked.

Then, when I started running my own business, that all changed. I’m still not a nights-out kinda woman… but I have met the most incredible women over the past 10 years, who have changed the trajectory of my business and life. They’ve been an inspiration, a support, a joy. Teachers, mentors, clients, and friends.

And I now have a handful of female friends who I would shift heaven and earth to help out, and I know they’d do the same for me.

I feel a stab of grief that it took me 30 years to find this type of friendship—and I’m extremely thankful that I did.

You know who you are, and I thank the universe for sending you my way every day.

How about you? Who are the women in your life?

Set a timer for 5 minutes and scribble it down.

TTFN,

Vicky
