The longer you leave it, the harder it gets

The longer you leave it, the harder it gets

The longer you leave it, the harder it gets.

And the more pointless it seems…

And the more you should have started last week, last month, last year — so you may as well not start at all.

It’s too late now, after all.

What is even the point of it allllllll?

But this, my friend, is absolute piddywiddle.

Sure, the best time to have started writing your book is a year ago or a month ago or a week ago, but you didn’t.

shrug

Oh well. It’s a shame, but it’s reality.

You could, however, start writing your book now…

I KNOW — RADICAL IDEA, RIGHT?

“but but but—“

Shush now. I put it to you that IT DOESN’T MATTER THAT YOU HAVEN’T STARTED YET.

Stop ruminating on that should which is kicking you in the privates because that should is the reason you’re still not doing it.

That should is keeping you in a shame spiral.

The should is making you believe that if you haven’t already achieved all of the things, it’s too late now.

Pssst. C’mere.

That should is lying to you.

Replace it with this little exercise:

  1. Set a timer for 5 minutes or one cup of tea/coffee/gin/water/kombucha.
  2. Ask yourself WHY you haven’t started yet.
  3. Put away your judgement.
  4. Come at it with curiosity.
  5. Noodle on THAT for a while.

Because curiosity is magical and if you can start thinking about why you had an idea for a book in the first place, and what stopped you from starting it, three things will happen:

  1. You’ll understand yourself a little bit better (always a bonus).
  2. You’ll remember why you were excited enough about your idea to think of writing a book in the first place.
  3. If you can figure out what’s in your way, it gives you a place to start.

Go ahead.

It’s only 5 minutes and you have time to do this. Or, you know, you REALLY may as well not bother.

I’d love to know how you get on…

And when you’ve thought about it, consider this: if going it alone hasn’t produced a book, maybe it’s time to try something else.

I’m opening the doors to MicroBook Magic Season 7 next week, an 8-week writing adventure that guides you through the first draft of your book.

You’ll get everything you need to start, write, and publish plus my personal feedback and coaching for the whole 8 weeks.

Here’s what’s included:

  • Weekly group calls to get my individual feedback on your writing, structure, and progress — and cheerleading and encouragement from your fellow writers.
  • Weekly office hours via Telegram so you can ask a question real quick and get a fast answer from me (or one of your fellow writers, because there’s a lot of wisdom in these rooms).
  • Accountability and support from me and a group of like-minded writers so you never feel alone and floundering and stuck.
  • A pre-course workshop to help you iron the kinks out of your idea and get clear on why you’re doing this.
  • Templates, guides, and prompts so you’re never staring bleakly at a blank page.
  • Nibble-sized lessons to walk you through each step involved in planning, writing, and editing your book — no overwhelm here, just simple, doable tasks every day.
  • A post-course celebration Showcase for you to show off what you’ve been working on to your friends, family, and strangers on the internet (everyone who does this hates the idea until they do it, then they’re SO glad they did, so don’t be too scared!)
  • BONUS access to my Creative Playground Power Hours — dedicated writing spaces, microworkshops, and group hotseat/brainstorming sessions to support your book.

We start on April 28.

There are a maximum of 15 spaces available, so it’s a small intimate group where you’ll get a LOT of attention from your book coach — me! — you’re never left to figure it all out on your own.

A standard ticket is £997 + VAT and a VIP ticket (which includes 2 private coaching calls and your book typeset and ready to go) is £1,700 + VAT. Payment plans are available!

To find out more or to figure out if this is the right thing for you, read this or reply and ask me anything.
