If you tell me it’s Monopoly I’m afraid we can’t be friends anymore just enemies because that’s what Monopoly does to people.
Just kidding. Probably.
I don’t know if Dungeons & Dragons counts as a board game—probably not—but I’m claiming it anyway. It’s one of my favourite ways to spend a few hours with some of my favourite, most funny, creative people.
If you’re unfamiliar with D&D, go and watch Stranger Things; those nerds will show you.
It’s a role-playing fantasy game in which you can kind of choose your own adventure. I mean, there’s a Dungeon Master who plots out the game but honestly? After those dice have rolled, anything can and does happen.
The DM wants you to fight the dragon, but you decide to tame it? Roll on and let’s see—and suddenly we have a pet dragon that flies us around and breathes fire on our enemies.
The DM wants us to explore a castle, but players keep repeatedly rolling a 1 and falling down the stairs? Maybe we won’t be exploring that castle after all, so much as dying in it…
So yeah, D&D for me.
What’s your favourite game? Board or otherwise?
