Social media is like processed sugar: highly addictive and I just can’t get enough, and then I binge so much I want to vomit.
Physically vomit as well as metaphorically in my brain.
When I feel the anxiety build up to explosive levels, I take a step back… but I’d like to take a step back way before I get to that point.
I don’t think social media is evil, per se… or even A Bad Thing.
But I do think the way most of us use it is problematic.
I hate the amount of time I spend on there, so I’ve taken a few steps to mitigate it:
- Freedom app on my laptop—it prevents me from getting onto certain sites during the hours I want to work.
- My phone is elsewhere—I never have my phone in my office during working hours, because I will pick it up and doomscroll.
- Curated my feeds so I see mostly things that make me happy, like angry emus called Karen, and cats being cute.
Do you ever have a digital detox?
How did it go for you?
If not, would you do one?
Are you even on social media at all?
Set a timer for 5 minutes and write about what comes up from this prompt.
Happy writing!
