Sometimes I work the pole. Or the trapeze.
Meaning, gutterface, that I practice and teach trapeze and pole dancing and it’s really good fun.
One of the funnest parts, for me, is watching people go from “I can’t do this” to “I’m doing it I’m doing it” to “wow that looks amazing.”
A few weeks ago, one of the women in a pole class, who couldn’t invert not so long ago, executed a move not only correctly, but beautifully.
It’s hard to learn a lot of pole moves, and can take ages.
It’s even tougher, requiring tons of repetition and attention to detail, to do a move and make it look stunning.
So I scuttled across the room sideways, like the socially anxious little crab person I am, and hissed at her, “You did that move beautifully. SO WELL. So smooth.”
Then I scuttled back across the room again and promptly forgot about it.
On her way out of the door, the student stopped and said, “I was having a really bad day today, it’s been tough. Thank you so much for coming over and telling me I did that move beautifully, it made my day.”
Sometimes, I get a random email from someone who’s read one of my books and loved it, and they’ve told me how it’s helped them. I love those.
On occasion, I log onto LinkedIn and find myself tagged randomly by someone, apropos of nothing, saying something lovely about me. I love these too.
Next time you think something lovely about someone, take a moment and tell them.
Pop across the room.
Send them a text.
Tag them in a post.
Drop an email.
Send a carrier pigeon.
Whatever.
It takes but a moment but it can shift their whole day.
So, on this Friday morning, I would like to shout out these people who are all doing wonderful things:
- Sharon Hurley Hall, who has created the most welcoming and generous space for people who want to learn more about anti-racism, equity, and generally being the best humans we can be. I’m already loving this space. You can find out more about it here.
- Aileen Smith who came to MicroBook Magic Season 5 earlier this year and is about to publish her first book! So excited!
- Dave James who is a very funny and kind man, who gave me my first ever stand-up comedy gig a few months ago (and another later this month) and posted a really lovely thing about me on LinkedIn just because he wanted to support my launch. He’s a great speaker and comedian and speaker-trainer. Check him out here.
- Louise Blackburn who has been in my Creative Playground for YEARS and is a constant cheerleader and encouraging friend and is the Queen of Systems and you should check out her Sparks memberships and workshops here.
- The 7 amazing humans who are writing their MicroBooks with me this month in MicroBook Magic Season 6! I’m SO excited and feel so privileged that they’re trusting me to guide them along!
Who can you send a lovely little note to today?
Go and do it.
They’ll love you for it.
